I’m not gonna lie, I’ve always been a water baby. I remember from a young age my Mom telling me stories about how I would, as an infant, be screaming my head off but the second my body touched the water, an instant calmness came over me. Anytime I was left with a babysitter they were first warned about my uncanny ability to find trouble anywhere and everywhere, and also let in on my secret kryptonite. Growing up in Southern California, the ocean was seemingly always on the agenda. What should we do this weekend? Let’s go to the beach! What should we do for the 4th of July? Let’s go to the beach! Most every holiday was celebrated on the beach with a fire pit. It’s where my heart is, where I feel at home. So it’s really not all that surprising that one of my favorite locations for a shoot is (dun-dun) the beach!
Aside from my life long obsession with water, the beach really is an ideal location. There’s so much natural light it makes my mouth water (seriously, it’s kinda sad) and while the sand does get in everything, and it’s a little more challenging keeping strangers out of shots, it’s still a favorite.
One of my all time favorite sessions, my sisters second maternity shoot, we did last summer at Newport Beach. The light was just perfect that day, and we decided to visit a beach we had never been to. A bit off the beaten path we found dog park that was drastically less populated than the other beaches.
My last session was my youngest nephews 8 month shoot. This one was actually a few weeks late, but well worth the wait.
I think it’s pretty safe to say that I’ll do many more sessions at the beach, and undoubtedly will end up living there. Someday 🙂 ::sigh::
